Nora Polsky was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 17, 1919. She came to California when she was seven and lived there ever since. She graduated from El Monte High School in December 1935 and attended Pasadena City College. She then transferred to Berkeley. Through some friends, she met and married Orval Srack in 1939. Nora joined the Women's Air Corp when Orval joined the Navy. However, she had to leave the Seattle area where she was testing the machine guns in fighter planes due to her pregnancy with her daughter. Joanne was born in October 1943 while Nora was living in Lynwood. When Orval was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Monrovia. Thomas was born in 1946 but sadly he passed on when he was two due to the 1948 polio epidemic in California. Two years later the couple was blessed with the birth of Dennis. At that time, they moved to Azusa where the family lived until late 1960. Nora resumed her education and in 1956 graduated from LA State and started teaching. She taught in the Glendora and Charter Oak school districts for over twenty years. In 1962 the couple divorced and Nora stayed at the Covina house. Nora met Mel Hula in 1964 and they were married in August 1967. Nora was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in December 2006 and entered the lost world of that disease. She died peacefully at her home on September 30, 2010. She is survived by her spouse, Melvin Hula, her daughter Joanne Mead, her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Linda Srack, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, due to her love of animals, the family has asked that a donation be made to the ASPCA. Arrangements under the direction of Oakdale Mortuary, Glendora, CA.
