He was raised in the Austin area, completing the 8th grade before dropping out of school to work.
At the age of 19, he joined the US Navy upon the outbreak of WWII. He served his country Honorably on the USS Nevada and USS Fessenden in both the Atlantic and a Pacific theaters. He was on board the USS Fessenden when it sunk a German U-Boat in the Atlantic.
After the war, he briefly returned to Texas, before returning California to court his wife to be Maria Paez. They married in 1948, and by 1951 had three children, Margaret, Robert and Domingo.
After getting married, Domingo went to work for Hoffman Electronics, where he learned to repair TV’s and other small electronics. As the company transitioned to cable TV service, he learned to install and troubleshoot cable TV in large apartment complexes. After retirement, he continued to fix broken TV’s for friends and family.
Domingo was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He also loved dogs throughout his life.
He remained married up until the death of Maria in 1981. His daughter Margaret died in 1998. He is survived by his sons Robert and Domingo.
In his later years, he enjoyed the companionship of his long time Partner, Olivia Herrera, who became his primary caretaker once his health began to decline.
Through it all, he never stopped calling Texas “home”, even at the age of 95.
