Deane Leroy Damon slipped quietly into Eternity.
He was born an only child Percival Leroy Damon and Alice May Cushing-Bird on February 17, 1916 in Poland, Maine
He grew up in the Lewiston / Auburn area of Maine along the Androscoggin River.
After graduating from Bliss Business College, he moved to California in 1936.
He began a gainful career in the grocery business by getting a job at Roberts Market in Sierra Madre.
When his loyalty to this nation called him into service in 1943, his boss Mr. Roberts said he'd gladly "hold his job for him when he returned"
Before leaving to boot camp he married his sweetheart Hesta May Kelsey on September 11,1943.
During his 2 1/2 year tour of duty, he was wounded on the island of Lete in the Philippines.
His years of service earned him, among others, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals.
Upon his return home, he picked back up with his job at Robert's Market and continued to enjoy all that it offered for the next 50 years!
During this time he and Hesta lived in Sierra Madre and began a family. Raising three children - Michael Peter, Jeffrey Jon, and Julianne.
In 1955 they moved to Glendora and there Hesta continues to live in the house they called "home".
Deane was not only a loving husband of 70 years, but he was also the best Dad a kid could ever hope for.
He was the "go-to" guy for a bit of comic relief in this sometimes crazy world of ours.
He was a loyal friend, trusted confidant, caring co-worker, good neighbor and quiet ,but proud American Veteran.
There are many things to say about Deane..and in the end, there's just this-
We loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed.
