Anita Rivera Martin Cunningham was born February 22, 1930, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was the sixth child of seven born to John Arroyo Martin and Hannah Laura Rivera. She grew up in the Kalihi Valley, where she attended Governor Wallace Rider Farrington High School.
At the age of 22, she married United States Air Force Staff Sargent Leon Charles Newman (from St. Charles County, Md). Together they had five children. Later in life, she married Robert T. Cunningham. Together they had one child.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five older siblings, and two husbands. Left behind to celebrate her life are her six children: Quintina Laura “Sasie” Coutain, Henry Nunez Newman (Debbie), Charles Leon “Charlie” Newman (Marta), Anthony Richard “Ricky” Newman (Juanita), Cynthia Leona “Cindy” Collins (Donald), and Joann Charlene “JoJo” Robinson (Reginald). She also is survived by 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild, one brother, various nieces and nephews, and friends and family from Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and California.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 12, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. –8:30 p.m. Funeral ceremony and internment will take place on Friday, March 13, 2015, at 3:00 p.m . Both events will take place at Oakdale Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1401 South Grand Avenue, Covina, CA 91740.
