Gloria N Ortiz

Gloria Nilda Ortiz left this world to be home with the Lord on August 20, 2022 , at the age of 73. She was born to the late Jose R. Garcia and Frances Garcia in Lares, Puerto Rico on May 20, 1949. Her family moved to New York when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Eastern District High School in 1968 and started her working career as a secretary for an insurance firm thereafter. It was during this time, she met the love of her life, Emerito Ortiz. They wedded on September 20, 1969 and would have been married for 53 years. Together, they shared a life with their three children where she devoted herself as a mother and homemaker. She was a loving and supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and lived the remainder of her life in the home that she created. She will be missed tremendously.

She is survived by her husband, Emerito; her son Edgar Ortiz; her daughters Evette Pastrana and Lissette Tamayo; her grandchildren Krystal Torkomian, Aaron Pastrana, Emry Ortiz, Adriana Tamayo, Sabrina Tamayo and Alexandra Tamayo as well as 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Esther Vlasic and brother Jose Garcia.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm.

As Gloria’s health declined, she often repeated the advice that you have to live your life to the fullest as expressed by the lyrics to her favorite song by Marc Anthony,

“Voy a reir, Voy a bailar, Vivir mi vida....”

(I’m going to laugh, I’m going to dance, Live my life...)
