Daniel Rivera was born on December 22, 1937 to Jose Rivera and Ines Mendez in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. Jose and Ines both had children from previous marriages; Daniel was the oldest of eight children they had together. The family relocated to Saint Just, Puerto Rico, where Daniel attended school and got his first job working on the island's sugar cane fields. His intelligence and work ethic carried him through his education at the Republica de Colombia High School in Rio Piedras as well as the University of Puerto Rico. Throughout his career, Daniel worked as a truck driver, a government employee, was the district manager for El Mundo newspaper, and owned several businesses across Puerto Rico and New York. He married Nydia Hernandez in 1961 and together they had three sons - Daniel Jr., Francisco, and Juan Jose. Daniel moved his family to New York City in 1980, where they resided until 2020. He was predeceased by his son, Juan Jose, and wife, Nydia, and is survived by his sons Daniel Jr. and Francisco, as well as his granddaughter, Marielle.
Daniel will be remembered for his generosity, his fondness for music and baseball, and his unconditional love for his family.
