Charles Edward Dunn also known as “Charlie,” “Chuckie/Chuck,” “Pal,” and “Babe,” as well as “dad,” “grandpa,” and “officer” lived a full and incredibly meaningful life.
Charlie was born in Queens, New York in 1930. He was the loving son of William and Mary and dear brother of 4 siblings, Willie, Frank, Gene, and Mary Dunn. He married his bride, June, in 1951, just before serving in the United States Marine Corps. Charlie served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953. He then became a very proud police officer for the New York City Police Department in 1956. He bravely served our city for 27 years, until 1984. He was incredibly proud, as we all are, of the many people he helped and the few that he saved. He loved spending time with family and friends, noting that “love and family…is the foundation of the world.” He truly was a dedicated and genuine family man and person.
Charlie is survived by his loving bride, June Dunn, whom he has shared life with since the age of 14 – an incredible 78 years together. He is also survived by his devoted children Gail Nielson and Maureen Caravella, his son-in-laws John Nielson and Thomas Caravella, and his loving grandchildren Cayla and Thomas Caravella. Charlie is predeceased by his precious daughter, Ellen Dunn. His compassionate, honest, and dedicated spirit will truly be missed by all who loved him, but met by all who have missed him.
