Ana Maria Najjar

Najjar, Ana Maria (nee Roman), transitioned to heaven on November 13, 2020. She was the daughter of Lucia and Pedro Roman. The devoted wife of Hilal Najjar, with whom they raised 4 children together – Sofia Abukharma (Walid) of Woodland Park, NJ; Issa Najjar (Cheryl) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Iris Lherisson (Gaetan) of Westchester, NY; Ivelisse Harris (Phillip) of Kingsport, TN. Stepmother to Hilal’s 8 children from a previous marriage. She is the loving grandmother of Khaled, Aniseh, Dina, Bilal, Abigail, Amani, Blake, Amelia, Anna Brooke, Rachel, Anne-Lise, and Justin, who were the center of her impactful life. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters Haydee Nieves and Iris Galindo and nieces and nephews.

Born in Puerto Rico in 1933, Ana came to live in Brooklyn, NY with her family. It was in Brooklyn that she met Hilal, and they married on October 30, 1965. They were married for 29 years until he passed on April 9, 1994.

Ana met tragedy with strength and courage, ensuring that her children would have fulfilled lives. She spoiled her grandchildren with a selfless and open heart. There was nothing she would not do for those she loved. She was a virtuous woman of God. Ana had tremendous faith in her beliefs and was not ashamed to have them expressed in how she lived her life. While her strength and resilience helped her persevere through challenging times, her infectious personality, warmth, and humor endeared her to so many. She never met a stranger, everyone felt they belonged to her personally.

Ana will be missed very much. She gave her family a new version of themselves, one that is more compassionate, caring, and hopeful than ever before. Always Loved. Forever Missed. Never Forgotten.

A private service will take place on November 23, 2020 and burial to follow.

Donations can be made in her honor to her favorite charity The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
