Thomas was born in Toledo, Ohio to Leroy Ernest Smith and Ruby Alice Cornett Smith on March 18, 1949. He went to school at DeVilbiss High School. He graduated with a BA from Miami University of Ohio. He worked as a manager for cable TV and entertainment company for many years until his retirement in early 2000. Thomas was an ultimately loving and compassionate person. He exuded natural love and care for everyone he met. He had volunteered as a chef for the kitchen of Union Station Homeless Services and also participated in volunteer services of “Road to Recovery” by the American Cancer Society, driving cancer patients to their treatment when he himself suffered from cancer. Thomas was a lover of movies and music and was a world traveler, he never ceased to be curious about other peoples and their cultures.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father Leroy, mother Ruby and his brother James Leroy Smith. Thomas is survived by his partner Tao Yan, his brother Robert Ernest Smith and his sister Nancy Ann Smith Hula.
The family of Thomas wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his doctors and nurses and other care team members at the outpatient clinic in Pasadena, CA, City of Hope National Cancer Center, Duarte, CA as well at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, CA.
Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, 2:00pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205, with Rev. Erick Perez officiating. Arrangements by Glendale Funeral Home.
