Biggest lost for a beautiful heart and soul! 
So sorry for your lost

Mom was known to her sons as a tough, stern, tiger mom growing up. For me, I had the fortune of being part of her family for the last 6 years. She embraced me as a daughter and treated me with kindness and love, and always made me feel welcomed. When I moved to LA and showed up with a dog (Mochi), Mom initially had reservations about dogs, but she quickly came to love Mochi. She fed her everything she possibly can and even took Mochi on a field trip by train to Union Station just for a walk. I always appreciated when she spent all day making giant batches of her famous stuffed chicken wings because she knows I absolutely love them.  She dedicated endless hours to helping and giving support and comfort to others including her temple and members of the community struggling through tough times. I will always remember her selflessness, bravery, and consideration for others. Mom will be dearly missed for her shy smiles, delicious food, magical green thumb, and treasured chuckles. 

I am quite sad you won’t be calling us about your homegrown dragon fruits anymore. I love you Mom, and may you finally Rest In Peace after a lifelong uphill battle. You’ve earned it.

Mom wasn’t a huge fan of eating out but she always made exceptions especially for birthdays  when it comes to celebrating with her kids including her future daughter-in-law.

Mom went out of her comfort zone and flew from Los Angeles to Chicago to celebrate with my family for my dad’s 60th birthday. Mom was forced to have fun and do touristy things like visit Millennium Park. She was used to working and not relaxing, but would be a good sport for us.

Huoi Ly was like a big sister to me.  We always consulted each other and more so that I asked her about Cambodian recipes, and mundane things such as “wanna go to Hawaiian market?” Or she would ask me “do you want to pick up some food I’d made?”  Life is better when you got someone to look out for you…and these were our special bond! She also was very much devoted to her 3 boys and the Cambodian temple…always found herself quite busy as of late working at the temple to help out with temple food preparations.  To her she found comfort in trying to prepare for “a better next life” (Buddhism practice that embodies “helping others” as for good karma).  As long as she felt someone needed help she would put that need first instead of her needs…that had been her modus operandi.  Jai Mui, that’s how I called her, is a special human being and she’ll be sorely missed for her hard charitable work and kind heart to everyone she knew.   May she be RIP and meet my parents in Heaven.  My family including my daughter Eileen (she couldn’t be here to see her last time) send our condolences to Jai Mui’s family.  

Mom came to visit Washington for a small house warming during Thank Giving in 2021. She never comes out for fun, but trooped it out for this one trip. It had been almost 15 years since the last time our entire family went out for a trip for fun, and boy was it fun!
