Suzanne Ellen Willoughby Young passed away peacefully in Glendale on May 27th, 2024, at 84 years of age and after a long illness. Suzy was born on March 25th, 1940, in Akron, Ohio and was the youngest of 3 daughters. The family moved to Phoenix when she was in grammar school. Suzy attended Washington Elementary School, Glendale and Washington High Schools, graduating in 1958. She earned her BA from ASU and went on to earn 2 master’s degrees in education. Suzy was a Librarian for Maricopa County Library and taught for decades in Washington Elementary School District #6 at Palo Verde, Richard E. Miller, and finally Lookout Mountain Elementary, where she proudly co-coordinated the gifted program for many years. Education was her life. Suzy had a passion for literature and was a voracious reader. She was a long-time member of All-Saints Episcopal Church in Phoenix and was strong in her faith. Her Christmases in her Moon Valley home were epic and the source of great memories for her grandchildren. Suzanne is predeceased by her husband Philip Young, her sister Jean (Gerald) Givler and Patricia (William) Waddington, her parents Glen and Margaret Willoughby, and her nephew Christopher. She is survived by her only son Thomas Cole (Jackie), three grandchildren, Justin (Andrea), Ethan (Alex), and Glen (Kate), two beautiful great-grandchildren, nieces Shanna and Cynthia, and nephews Michael and Timothy.
