I am writing on behalf of my Mom Jeanne Davis Dresen,  Sally and my mother were very close in friendship. I know they stayed in touch all the way until my Mom went home to be with the Lord in March of 2021. 
She was such a wonderful blessing and I always enjoyed the stories about Sally that  my Mom would share.

Sally and Jeanne had a friendship that will continue on in heaven for an eternity!

I remember every time we visited Phoenix, there was always Carmel Popcorn cooking.. The fresh smell of it would fill the whole house. Grammy would be on her chair and Grandpap would be cleaning out his pipe. As a young kid your not suppose to love the smell of smoking, but to this day when I get that smell in my nose, it always reminds me of them. When I had moved to Phoenix for a short while it took me two days to remember where the house was because I wanted to surprise her. When my little brother Robby died in 92, Aunt Sally would send me cards and call me, and they always showed up when I needed the Word of God the most. It got me in the habit of turning to the word when times are tough, because they are never bad. I was on the phone talking with my Aunt LaJuana, when the call came in. It broke my heart, but I know she's with Grammy, Grandpap, Papap Bill, and my little brother Robby. That's what matters to me, I really good heart and caring woman, has entered the gates to heaven I was blessed to call her Aunty. I remember Sally in my very young years living on the farm and over the hill after the farm was sold.  She would stay in Pennsylvania during the winter while Uncle Dwight and Aunt Peggy went to Arizona for the winters.  One of my saddest memories was watching the moving truck with the three of them in the car following behind as they left the Lewisville area to move permanently to Glendale.  I loved writing her letters to her and helping my grandmother Mary Barkley do the same. It was always exciting to receive Sally’s letters as well.  Later, I traveled to Glendale to visit her in person and to introduce her to my husband and son. On another visit, I spent the entire day with her so we could catch up and she could show me the area. Sally will be greatly missed, but she is certainly in Heaven sharing her smile and love there just as she did here. 

Sally and I were good friends in high school. When I married her brother Bill, she became more like a Sister than a Sister In-law. Bill was in the military and no matter where we moved, Sally was so good at keeping us connected to everyone at home. Whether in a card, letter, note (in her beautiful handwriting) or a phone call, she always shared the news of family, friends, and current events. I will  miss our conversations but know that she is at peace.

I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Aunt Sally - visits to the farm in Pennsylvania, there home in Glendale, Arizona, our home in El Paso, Texas, and our home in Tucson, Arizona. In times of celebration and times of sorrow, Aunt Sally was there - a constant in faith, with God's love and comfort throughout our lives. I think now of the joyous reunion in Heaven with Grandma, Grandad, my Dad, dear little Robin, and all who have passed before us. Always in my heart. Maybe we can pick some more blackberries for Grandma's cobbler in Heaven. I love you Aunt Sally!

I had the privilege of spending time with Sally and Grandma Barkley.  It was an honor and a time filled with love and memories.  What a joyful reunion for all and peace and blessings for those of us still here.



When I think of my Aunt Sally, it is always with great love and gratitude.  I remember how she tried to give each niece and nephew her time when we were young, even having special activities she enjoyed doing with us - one on one.  For me, it was going to work with her at Chestnut Ridge Golf Club.  She would allow me to play around in the clubhouse, practice my game on the range and practice putting green, and cap it off with a Shirley Temple or Orange Soda.  Those were good days that I always looked forward to and treasured.  In later years, she assured me that she prayed for me daily.  Although separated by many miles, she took an interest in the work I was doing and helped support me spiritually and emotionally.
She was a dear, faithful, Godly, sweet and wonderful lady!

Aunt Sally was a special person filled with love and laughter. She always smiled and looked like she was ready to laugh. Some of my favorite memories are of sitting and listening to her and my Uncle Fred and my dad share stories of their life on the farm. They would always laugh so so much when they were recounting those fond memories. I also remember how she would take me to lunch with and her boss when I was little and she would get me a big bowl of black olives because she knew how much I loved them. I also remember making homemade rolls and homemade Ice cream together. She made rolls just like her mom, my grandmother. She never forgot to call me on my birthday and even called my husband on his. She always sent me a message on our children’s birthday too. No doubt that she is in heaven and is together with her parents. What a joyous reunion that must have been! Filled with hymn singing and laughter! 

A message from Bud Barkley (Sally's KY brother):  My sister had a large family in addition to her immediate family.  She kept up with cousins and aunts and uncles and friends back in Pennsylvania.  She would send me clippings and updates on friends I knew.  She had an amazing memory of important people who were part of our early life.  She was a very special person and I wish I had kept in closer touch with her during her late years.

46 years ago I walked into a chiropractor’s office in Phoenix and met Sally and started the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Sally never met a stranger. She always had a smile and encouraging word for everyone. 

Her faith and love of the Lord would always shine thru every situation. I am blessed to have called her my friend. I am sad Sally has passed but know she is with Jesus and is with her parents and brother. I will miss her so much but know we will again. 

God bless her family in North Carolina who cared for Sally during her final days. She spoke of you often over the years and loved you all so much!  Deepest sympathy on your loss.
