Roger Helton,71, of Phoenix, passed away on Monday, April 20,2020 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on January 31,1949 to the late Jackson Helton and Vesta (Napier) Helton in Scottsburg, Indiana. He attended Carl Hayden graduating class of 1967. Roger Helton worked as a Building Maintenance and Parks Department worker for the City of Phoenix. In May of 1990 he married Teri Kirkland in Phoenix Arizona.
He was a great athlete in his day, he enjoyed running, lifting weights and exercise in general. He was a Middle Weight Golden Gloves State Champion of Arizona in 1970’s. He also loved music; rock n roll, the blues and gospel were his favorites. He did battle of the bands in his younger days with some of his family members. He especially loved playing the harmonica. He also sang and played a little guitar. He enjoyed playing baseball in leagues and with family. He took up golf and loved it. His biggest passion was playing darts. He won countless tournaments and played in many dart leagues.
Roger is survived by his loving spouse of 30 years, Teri Kirkland, 4 children and 1 stepchild: Robert Helton, Crystal Helton, Lisa Helton, Sophia (Ranee) Dopson and Laurie Switalski. Also, his 3 siblings; Ron Helton, Opha Brewer and Cathy Helton. He has 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Jerez.
Funeral services will be held at a later date at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, Arizona.
