Robert “Bob” Wilkinson passed away, peacefully, Friday, August 4, 2017 in Peoria, Arizona. He was born in Steeleville, Missouri on June 13, 1931 to the late George “Saxton” and Tressie Wilkinson. Bob was the youngest of 6 children and was preceded in death by his brothers George & Bill and his sister Marguerite Reheis. He is survived by his sisters Elloise & Mercedes Perry. Bob had many fond memories of growing up in Missouri and when he was 14 years old his family moved to Arizona. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean War. After the war, he went into business for himself and opened a Chevron Service Station in Phoenix. In 1962, he was invited to run the Chevron station in Cameron, AZ and in 1967, he moved to Kayenta, AZ and opened Kayenta Chevron Service. Bob quickly became beloved by the community. In addition to his service station, Bob became a cattleman and bought livestock from the local community. Over the years, Bob bought more than 30,000 head of livestock. He retired in 1995, after suffering a stroke. Determined, Bob recovered the best he could and continued to sell hay to the Kayenta community with the help of his longtime friend, Leroy Cadman, who always helped him, tirelessly. Friends described Bob as being honest, kind, happy, funny, humble, generous, and even a legend in his community. He was honored in 2007 with the Life Time Award for his service and dedication to the Kayenta community, and especially the Kayenta Rodeo Task Force. He was a great father and husband. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Frances Wilkinson. She was born near Neosho, Missouri on May 23, 1935 and moved to Arizona when she was 18. Soon, she met Bob and they were married August 9, 1954. Together they built their business, supported their community, and raised 4 children. Frances was smart, honest, and supported Bob in all of his endeavors. They are survived by their children, Rob Wilkinson (Evangeline), Sharon Acritelli (George), David Wilkinson (Rebeka), Laurie Bustamante (Paul), and Leroy Cadman, his loyal friend. They have 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 9 AM followed by funeral at 10 AM both held at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, Arizona.
