Norman, or 'Boyd' Tech, as he was called, was born on June 11th 1943 to Walter and sadie May Tech in Martin, SD. He was the youngest child of 8. His parents owned a cafe in Vetal, SD and he grew up hunting and playing baseball. He attended high school in Mobridge, SD at Northwestern Lutheran Academy.
He then attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN where he met his wife Muriel Jean Frey. They married after their senior year and started their first call in Red Wing, MN. Boyd took his second call in Kawkawlin, MI where they adopted their first son Robert (1965-2020). Paul (1968) and Daniel (1970) were born while at his call in Michigan. Boyd later took a call to Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton, WI, and 6 years later a call to Phoenix, AZ where he taught at Arizona Lutheran Academy. His son Michael (1984) was born while here.
He taught several years at Glendale Community College and finished his career at Tolleson High School in AZ where he was the director of the English department. His education included a Bachelors and 2 Masters degrees in English and Educational Administration. He coached several basketball teams to championships throughout his career, and was a golf, baseball/softball, and tennis player/coach and was a long time drama director.
He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
