Remembering my favorite person, friend, confidant, and substitute mom and joke-ster!  I miss Norma so much and wish I could call her on the phone.  I miss her random calls--she would ask what I was doing now!  I miss her agenda lunches and all the plans she would make for the holidays.  She made all my holidays special just going to lunch or gathering at her kitchen counter for some coffee and pan duce.  I spoke to her several time per day and miss that!!!  I did not care if it was medical/health related discussions, food recipes or just plain gossip of City Hall!  :)  As the holidays approach, I am praying for the FAMILY & MANY friends that are still mourning for Norma.  I pray for PEACE in this country that Norma loved so much!  NORMA was a true PATRIOT for the USA!  She fought for the freedom we so much NEED TODAY!  I am happy she is in Heaven and not suffering. If anyone knew Norma she was the epitome of that quote!  She spent her life helping others standing up for those that had a silent cry and pouring into the next generation of servant leaders.  She stood up for what she believed in and didn’t have a problem with vocalizing her concerns and convictions. She would tell you how it needs to be done and I respected her for that! Norma had a heart for the people and she will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the Alvarez and Silva Family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief. Norma you will forever be in our hearts. You did so much for everyone that needed help.  I have known Norma since I was very young in age. We lived in the Barrio as she called it.  Sometimes she didn't have a place to have her meetings, so it was always ask Mrs. ARCE if we could have it at her house, and knowing my mom, it was always a yes.   I had the opportunity of being very close to Norma,  I was her driver, she always wanted to go grocery shopping or clothes shopping.  After shopping she always wanted to go to Carolina's Mexican Food or on Wednesdays to Village Inn for a slice of pie.   She would call me in the middle of the night  because that's when she liked to clean.  One time she called me at 10:30 I had just taken  shower  she needed help there I go with my wet hair and pajamas to help her.  I have so many fond memories of her. I offer my sincere and most heartfelt condolences to the Alvarez & Silva Family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of mourning.  Norma left many fond memories of Joy and laughter.  I've known Norma all my life.  She was always actively involved in our communities, always offered help and advice in hopes of continued success and always asking for others to volunteer their time and talents for the Good of the community. Norma would frequently call me regarding mortgage financing analysis and our conversations would quickly turn and end in fun and laughter and reminscing the past.  I will miss Norma but know her memory will live on.  Rest in Peace Norma!

Many good programs were born under Norma. Norma had a very good heart and always willing to help others. I worked with Norma since I was 16 until she retired. She worried for us and always kept in contact. She always told me I was like her daughter. We will miss her dearly. Rest In Peace Norma.

To the Silva and Alvarez family, I am so sorry for your loss.  I was honored to be a part of her life and her Glendale history.  There are so many thoughts and words that fill my mind, I would need to write a book to tell.  I met Norma when I was 12 and she sparked a light in my heart that will never fade.  She taught me an abundant ways to work, laugh, cry, pray, sing, work some more and laugh some more!  She always had some type of joke or way to laugh about a stressful situation. She had the best memory, always remembering every detail whether it was a serious work meeting, someone's name or fun community event we worked on.  I miss calling her. We talked almost every day talking about old times, movies, recipes and many past work events/situations that made us LAUGH.  We would talk about those famous "nick names" she would use to help us remember people in our lives or for ourselves trying to get work done.  She loved joking around. She always said, "if you can't laugh at yourself, then you are not living life to the fullest!"  Norma stood up for the poor, weak and weary, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN IN NEED. She fought for truth and justice in all she did.  She always said "life is not perfect but, you can get pretty close!"  She made a difference in many lives. The Glendale community is saddened by her passing as she did a tremendous amount of work in GLENDALE throughout her 30+ years in public service.  She had countless happy moments with her family, friends, work and community, however, ONE of her best days was when she became Council Member Norma S. Alvarez, Ocotillo District in the heart of Glendale.  YOU ARE FOREVER on my mind and HEART.  JOB WELL DONE SERVANT of GOD!  I Love You Norms, BECK!
