Michael Toby Hernandez

Michael Toby Hernandez was born in Phoenix, AZ to Sally and Tony on May 4th 1970. He attended Peoria High School where he was involved in a breakdance group called the "Jam Masters", it was in this group he was given the name "Dr.Jam". He graduated from Peoria High School in 1988 and married his high school sweetheart Sheila on December 2nd. He was employed for 33 years at the same workplace where he was a model employee.

He is preceded in death by his father Tony, brother Tony Jr, father in law Ray Diaz, and grandchildren Phoenix and Eva.

Michael is survived by his wife Sheila, his daughters Clarissa and Melissa, his sons Michael Jr and Joey, his grandchildren Toby, Ronnie and Parker, his mother Sally, and brothers Frank and Danny.

Michael was a loving and devoted husband/father/tata/son/brother/tio/cousin and friend. He enjoyed reading, watching, playing and coaching sports. He always looked forward to going on vacations and spending time with his grandkids. Watching National Geographic, Discovery, and History channel were some of his favorite pastimes as he loved not only nature but the history of our world. He enjoyed being home and spending time with his family to have game nights and make lasting memories. You could always catch him listening to classic rock, old country, and collecting vinyls as he loved music! He was never one to throw things away and said everything had a cherished memory. He would always go out of his way to help others. There was never a time where you couldn't rely on Michael for help. Day or night, rain or shine, he was always there for you. Every year he looked forward to the holidays, for the delicious tamales his mom would make. However, Thanksgiving was always his most favorite holiday, and while his annual turkey may have been a bit dry and needing a bit more flavor. His enthusiasm and personality were not. You could always have a conversation with him about just anything. From cars, music, movies, nature, and animals, he simply loved to talk about life. He was a very handsome, courteous, funny, realistic, loving, helpful, hard working, positive, supportive, intelligent, unique, determined, calm, gentle, creative, adventurous, and simple man. He will be greatly missed by all.

A Visitation and Rosary will be held for Michael October 14th, 2021 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 15th, 2021 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. A committal service will occur Friday, October 15th, 2021 from 11:30AM to 12PM at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
