Born October 10, 1954 in Las Cruces, NM, Michael lived the majority of his life in Phoenix. Growing up in Phoenix, he became well known for his willingness to help anyone in need, his home cooked meals, and for being unapologetically himself.
Michael proudly served in the United States Army and traveled the world. After he returned to Arizona, his civilian career included working for nonprofit organizations, the private sector and retired from Maricopa County in October 2019.
He loved the Chicago Bears, loved to cook and share recipes, and he loved deeply.
A devoted father, Michael is survived by his children Kegan Chavez and Corina Chavez Ramsey (Brandon), grandchildren Ashley Rivera (Carlos), Audrey Madruga and great-grandson, Michael Rivera.
Services are private. His ashes will be reunited with his wife, Kathy Chavez, who preceded him in death.
