Mary Ann Mettes

Of Glendale, AZ, died at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 13, 2012. Mary Ann was born September 6, 1938 to the late William B. McKenzie and the late Rose Marie (Mertens) McKenzie in St. Paul, MN, and was raised in North St. Paul. She attended St. Peter's Catholic grade school, and graduated in 1956 from North St. Paul High. From an early age she had a love for music and performed in numerous variety shows and concerts. Married June 29, 1963 to W. Jerry Mettes of Shelbina, MO, she moved to Arizona in 1970. Mary Ann attended St. Louis the King Catholic Church, where she taught religious education, was a member of the choir, and performed in and directed many musical shows. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, her children: Patrick and wife Janet of Phoenix, daughter Mary Hoadley and husband Dan of Peoria, and son Mark and wife Marlene of Glendale, along with 8 grandchildren: Charlie, Ryan, Joseph, Emily, Sarah, Markie, Rachel and Annie, sisters Rosemarie Fleck of Madison, WI and Katherine Johnson of Circle Pines, MN, and brothers Lawrence of North Branch, MN and Thomas of Rush City, MN, many nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Patrick, William, Dennis, and Richard. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, April 17th from 5-8 PM, with a rosary at 7 PM, at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father J. R. Shetler on Wednesday, April 18th; at 10 AM at St. Louis the King Catholic Church, 4331 W. Maryland, Glendale. A graveside service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery 10045 W. Thomas, Avondale. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , in Mary Ann's name, in lieu of flowers.
