

Lonnie Cecil Cook Jr., a hard-working and reliable man, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 19, 1943, in Mayfield, Kentucky, Lonnie was the beloved son of Lonnie Cook Sr. and Rebecca Cook.
Lonnie proudly served in the United States Air Force, joining in July of 1964. He dedicated 20 years to his country, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1984. A Vietnam veteran, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. After his military career, Lonnie continued to serve his community as a fraud investigator at Discover, where he worked for 25 years.
He was married to Brenda Sue Ball for nearly 60 years until her passing on July 27, 2023. Together they raised two sons Brian & Jeffrey.
Lonnie is survived by his son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Heather, five grandchildren, Christopher Cook, Amy Cook, Barbara Hayes, Alexandra Cook, and Jaden Cox, and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Hayes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Brenda, and his son Brian.
Lonnie had a passion for collecting stamps and coins. He was known for his love of sharing the history of places as you drove past, and he was always there to offer support. Those who knew him will remember his grumpy yet ornery nature, his tall tales, and the famous people he claimed to know.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 West Northern Ave, Glendale. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 pm.
A committal service with full military honors is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale.
