June 4th in Peoria, Arizona. He was born on May 24, 1948 to the late Walter and Freida
(Pasche) Otte in Pasco, Washington. He attended Kennewick High School graduating class of
1966. Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Signal Corps
from 1968 to 1971 achieving the rank of Spec 5. He then furthered his education at Devry
University in Phoenix. Following his time at Devry he was employed by Xerox Corporation in
California. Following his time with Xerox he became a Heavy Equipment Mechanic first with the
City of Phoenix and then with the City of Glendale. Following his retirement from the City of
Glendale he developed heart trouble and went on to receive a heart transplant on June 22,
2000. He continued to live a full and active life pursuing his love of target shooting and classic
cars. He rebuilt and restored cars and motorcycles. He continued to ride his motorcycles. He
drove his classic car in the Route 66 Fun Run for 16 years consecutively. He also continued to
shoot and participated in the Arizona Senior Olympics earning Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
His last competition was February 9, 2019. He earned a Silver Medal in the Pistol Competition.
Larry was a faithful member of the Apostles Lutheran Church of Peoria serving as their head of
building maintenance. He has now transferred his membership to the Church Triumphant. He
worked diligently to maintain and improve the buildings and grounds of Apostles Lutheran
Church. Preschoolers at the school would often be delighted to see Mr. Larry riding on the red
tractor around the grounds. Painting the church was the one goal he was working to achieve
when he was called home. He also served on the church council, and faithfully attended
worship services serving as an example to his children and three of his grandsons who attended
church with him.
His devotion to his God and his desire to serve others was extended to his work with the New
Heart Society.. Serving as the Vice President of this organization he created and implemented a
poster contest and spoke to school children throughout the west valley about the impact of
organ donation. Over the years Larry also participated in the Transplant Olympics as a bowler..
He shared his experiences with others in the transplant community and spent many happy
hours in fellowship with them as they celebrated the gift of life.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years, Mary Elizabeth Otte; 6 Children; 14
grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Michael Otte and wife
Sharon of Mt. Angel, Oregon and Royal Otte and wife Sybil of Kennewick, Washington. In
addition to his brothers he was blessed with numerous cousins who with their families
comprised a large and loving family.
Larry’s steadfast faith in and love of God is reflected in the lives of all who knew him. His
undaunted courage and tenacity in the face of adversity serves as an example and inspiration to
all.
We will celebrate Larry’s life on June 17, 2019 at 10:00 am at Apostles Lutheran Church located
at 7020 W. Cactus Rd., Peoria, Arizona. Graveside service to follow at Resthaven Cemetery
