Our loving father, Joseph Trovini, age 90, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2023. Joseph was born on February 25, 1933, in Cheektowaga, New York. He was the son of the late Peter and Giovina Trovini.
After graduating from high school, Joseph enlisted in the US Air Force, where he proudly served for over 20 years. For his dedicated service, he earned numerous ribbons and medals, including the Meritorious Service medal, the Outstanding Unit medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Good Conduct medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Small Arms expert ribbon, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He retired in 1971, in Washington DC, after a career of service to our country. Joseph moved his family to Arizona and began his second career, working as the Director of Telecommunications, the Mail Services Department, and Transport Services Department at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, from 1971 until his retirement in 1982.
Throughout his lifetime, Joseph was active in church ministries, including The Knights of Columbus. He was involved in scouts, little league baseball, military organizations, and the Telecommunications Association- where he served in various roles such as President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Joseph enjoyed cooking Italian food, barbequing, family Christmas pizzelle making parties, automotive repairs, fishing, camping, playing instruments - most notably his accordion, and hand crafting leatherwork.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy, the” Beautiful Lady in Red” he met at a dance; his parents, and siblings, Jack, Archie, Connie, Donna, Toni, and Vera.
He is survived by his children, Gary Trovini, of Glendale, Kevin (Susanne) Trovini, of Peoria, Sharon (Jerome) Roland, of Peoria, Donna (David) Schulz, of Glendale, and Lisa (Rob) Abeln, of Phoenix, grandchildren Kevin Peter Trovini, Kozmo Trovini, Ashley Richards, Kimberly Roland, Michael Schulz, Zachary Abeln, Taylor Abeln, and Brady Abeln, 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation, celebration of life, and rosary will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 6-8 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, Arizona. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 am, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix, Arizona. Burial with full military honors will take place following mass at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
