Joseph LaRue Ricketts, age 87, of Peoria, Arizona passed away on April 21, 2023. He was born on January 11, 1936 to Joseph and Mary Ricketts (both deceased) in Peoria, Illinois. He graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting in 1958. He met his future wife of 65 years, Carol (King) Ricketts (deceased), at the First National Bank of Peoria, Illinois. They married on June 29, 1957. They had four children, Michael (Charlotte), Cynthia (Edgar), James, and Deborah (Andrew). He also had seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ruth and preceded in death by his sister Patricia. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He and his family moved to Glendale, Arizona in 1971. He worked primarily as a computer programmer for nearly 42 years at Armour-Dial and U-Haul. He was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Glendale. He counted money from the collection plates and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus as the Financial Secretary. He enjoyed spending his vacations traveling with his wife in a traveler trailer throughout the U.S., including Alaska, and fishing and hunting with family and friends. He loved his family, was the most humble of men, and always put his family and faith above all else.
A graveside service for Joseph will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 9925 W. Thomas Road, Avondale, AZ 85392. Following the graveside service will be a reception from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
