James J. Cooper, a beloved and faithful member of the community, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 15, 1939, in Eskridge, Kansas, James, affectionately known as Jim, JJ, and Coop, was the cherished son of John Henry Cooper and Frances May Pryor. He resided in Surprise, Arizona, where he was a devoted member of the Grand Community Baptist Church.
Jim dedicated 30 years of his career to Mountain Bell as a second-level manager. After retiring, he continued to serve his community by volunteering with the fire department crisis response program for 15 years, spending the last five years preparing lock boxes for elderly community members.
He was a loving husband to Diane Cooper, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters Katrina (Thomas), Kathy, and Karrie (Michael). His legacy continues through his grandchildren Eric (Ricci), Kristy, Tawnya, Joshua (Brii), Jessica (Justin), Michele, and James, as well as his great-grandchildren Madysen, Arianna, Trystan, Alexander, Kailiegh, Brayden, Cole, Karsen, Konner, Cougar, Elsie, Jayden, and Jenna. He is also survived by his sister, June Williams.
A dedicated member of the Free Mason since 1968, Lodge #2 F&AM, James was well-respected and admired by his peers. His personal journey included being a double lung transplant recipient in 1999 and a kidney transplant recipient in 2007. He was proud to be the oldest living transplant receiver.
