Detroit, Michigan, on September 3, 1929, to Harold and Alice Milner. Jack married, Mary Brooks, on
April 30, 1949, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. During this time, Jack and Mary had four
children. Three children survive Jack, Jackie Rice (Jim), Ginny Franklin (Rocky), John Milner (Linda), and
Joe Milner who preceded Jack's passing. Jack was blessed with many grandchildren: Seven
grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Jack is also survived by
many nieces and nephews. Until his passing, Jack remained very close to his brother Buck and his two
sisters, Arlene and Nancy.
Jack served his country in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Japan, where he proudly served as a
Sargent in charge of the mess hall. Jack always bragged about the good food he prepared for the troops.
Jack began Golden Glove Boxing and continued his love for the sport while in the Army. He always
enjoyed talking about his lean, mean, quick jabbing boxing style.
Jack moved his family to Phoenix in 1958, shortly before the birth of Joe. Jack immediately went to
work for Sarwark Motors in Phoenix as a car salesman. Jack could be seen on T.V. during those days
doing commercials advertising cars for sale at Sarwark Motors. Jack sold cars for 40 years in the Phoenix
area working for Money Oldsmobile, Edward Oldsmobile, Earnhardt Dodge, and Sands Chevrolet. Jack's
integrity as a car salesman showed as he took great pride selling cars to repeat customers during his
years in the car business.
Prior to Jack selling cars he was a vacuum salesman. He often bragged he could sell a vacuum to
anybody - even a person with a dirt floor!
Jack enjoyed his summer trips to Oak Creek Canyon with his family. They vacationed on the creek, in the
Call of the Canyon Cabins, and enjoyed many hours fishing at the creek side.
Most recently Jack enjoyed his trips with Mary back to Michigan visiting his brother and sisters.
At the age of 73, Jack dealt with his greatest challenge having his left leg amputated. Jack handled this
disability with tremendous poise and integrity. Jack was independent from others and continued to
enjoy his family and travels to Michigan and the beaches of San Diego.
One of Jack's favorite pass times, was sitting outside on the front porch of his home watching the
children walk to and from Andalucia School. Children and parents came to know Jack and would share
pleasantries during their morning and afternoon travels to and from school. Because of Jack's love for
the Andalucia children, those wishing to share a contribution may do so, in Jack's name, to the Alhambra
Foundation for the Future Scholarship Fund, at the following address: Alhambra Foundation for the
Future Scholarship Fund, 4510 N. 37 Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85015.
In closing, Jack will best be remembered for his quiet manner and endless hours spent working and
providing for his family, his love for Mary, his children, and his grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11 AM at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glenadale, Arizona.
