We mourn the loss of Gilbert Ochoa, age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.He passed away April 10, 2025. He was born and raised in Glendale, Az. At a young age, he worked in the fields to help support his parents and little brother; foregoing a high school education.
He married the love of his life Yolanda and they moved to California. Gilbert returned to school and earned his GED. Upon completion he completed a drafting training program. After he was hired by IBM. He continued his education at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose ,CA
He ultimately, accepted a transfer to Tucson, AZ as an IBM Designer in the engineering department. There, he designed parts for copiers, computers and mainframe computers. He retired from IBM after 30 years.
As a father he enjoyed being there for his daughters and son any chance he could. He coached his daughters softball team and his son's baseball team.
After his retirement, he took charge of his grandchildren. He enjoyed driving them to and picking them up from sports and school. Always making sure they all did their homework. He, also nursed them when they were sick.
Gilbert liked to go camping and travel. His interests were cars and car shows. He loved to be outdoors. Always, working outside in the yard and tending to his pool.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Yolanda married for 57 years, daughter Gloria, her husband Jose, daughter Rachel, son Gilbert JR and his wife Melissa and 8 grandchildren.
He is survived by his sisters Sally Hernandez and Clara Vasquez. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Richard Ochoa, his brothers Richard Jr,
Conrad, Raul, and Johnny.
Gilbert will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, kindness and compassion.
A visitation for Gilbert will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Ave, Glendale, Arizona. A rosary will occur Monday, April 28, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 7924 North 59th Ave, Glendale, Arizona. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5614 W. Orangewood Ave, Glendale, Arizona. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at West Resthaven Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, Arizona.
