George Lewis Lowes , 78, passed away in his sleep from ALS complications on Friday morning, July 22, about 4:00, at his home in Peoria, Arizona. George was a native of Toledo Ohio. After graduating from Franklin Township High School he completed one year of college at Purdue before joining the Navy. He also attended the University of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We’re proud to acknowledge George’s years of service in the US Navy from September 1956 to 1960, serving in the reserves for two more years. After completing his stint in the Navy, George went to work for IBM and retired from there after 35 years. His next career in Real Estate, as an agent/broker, started in 1992 and was shared with his wife Jane. He retired in 2011 and then they moved to Peoria. During his successful Real Estate career, he served the Agents in New Mexico as President of Albuquerque Board of Realtors in 2002-2003 and further as President of the Real Estate Association of New Mexico in 2009.
George was an avid motorcyclist and he and Jane enjoyed traveling occasionally with fellow Harley Davidson enthusiasts. Most of all, George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who dearly loved his wife, his children, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, the latest arrival was born just two weeks before George’s passing. He was obviously also beloved by his family.
He was diagnosed with ALS in June of 2012 which took his life; first his body and then very recently his mind. It was a slow progressive kind of suffering. Yet George rarely complained about his limitations and frequently expressed gratitude to Jane and his kids for their help.
He was a spiritual seeker, seemingly driven to find and explore the deeper truths and significances of life itself. He enjoyed making new discoveries motivated by his care for the total human community. George was a man of integrity and took his agreements and promises seriously. A handshake agreement was as binding as a written contract to George. His word was his bond. He was unique as a true adult in a word that seems to have so few of them.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jane Rasmussen Lowes of 32 years; her Son, Craig M Rasmussen ; George’s Son, Gregory S Lowes of Peoria, AZ ; his wife Kim, and Gregory’s three children, Emily, Alexis, and Amanda; George’s Daughter, Christina L Lowes Trowbridge of Albuquerque, NM; her husband, Joe Trowbridge; Christina’s children, Kirk and Paige; Daughter, Sheila (Katy) Lowes Ramey of Greenwood, IN; her husband Rick Ramey, their children, Nicholas and Melissa; Daughter, Julie M Lowes of Phoenix, AZ; and Julie’s children, Ashley R Lowes Guillermo; her husband Greg Guillermo; along with Ashley’s children, Liliana and newest addition born July 7, 2016 Maximo; Daughter, Joanna B.
