Ezequiel “Ed” J. Calles, born January 14, 1930, in Phoenix, Arizona, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed on to his new home on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. He was one of three brothers and three sisters. Husband to Sally, father to six children: Audrey, Debbie, Greg, Mark, Michael and Angelique. Grandfather to 22 children, great grandfather to 33 children, friend and mentor to so many others. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. (which converted to the Air Force in 1947) from 1946 to 1949. He served the County of Maricopa Sheriff’s Office from 1960 to 1983. While with the Sheriff’s Office, he was named Deputy of the Year in 1966, 1969 and 1971. He specialized in Major Investigations. He retired from the Sheriff’s Office as a Sworn Lieutenant. He served 7 years with the Department of Corrections from 1983 to 1990 and retired as a major. During 1990 to 1998, he served as Chief of Police for the City of Guadalupe and the City of El Mirage, culminating a 38 year career in law enforcement. Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., eulogy and rosary to follow. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 13, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6180 West Utopia Rd. Glendale, Arizona 85308. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale.
