Dorothy J. Holt, 95, of Phoenix, led a remarkable life. She was a beloved wife, a retired homemaker, a wonderful mother, and an awesome grandma/great grandma. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family February 10, 2021.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Albert, by her biological parents John and Bessie Bishop, her brothers Doyle Paul, John Albert, her sisters Katherine, Martha Lee, and Ethel Alice, an also her adopted parents Ayliff and Alice Smiser. She is survived by her daughters Alice Johnson and Sheri Schnepp, grandchildren Michael Johnson, Jenesia Colburn, Kyler Schnepp, wife Canji, Amber Schnepp Jurczak, husband Mike, Shelby Schnepp, fiancé Gary Essam, and 7 totally amazing great grandchildren.
Dorothy was born in El Dorado, Arkansas in 1925, the oldest of 6 children. She was a graduate of Southern Arkansas University formerly known as Magnolia A&M. Dorothy moved to Arizona in the 1940’s and worked at the Arizona Box Company where she met Albert and subsequently married him. Upon having children, she became a fulltime homemaker, school volunteer, and assisted with her daughter’s Girl Scout Troops. In 1979 she joined the Washington Women’s Club and remained an active member until its dissolution in 2018. During those 39 years, she served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The WWC prided itself for providing music scholarships as well as making charitable donations to other worthwhile organizations.
Family though, that meant the most to mom. It was truly the thing that brought her joy and made her smile. She could not have been prouder than she was of her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. To mom, life was family and family was first and foremost. Hers was a life well lived, and she was profoundly loved by us all.
Always and forever never forgotten. We love you.
Our family would also at this time like to recognize and give special thanks to the entire staff from Wings of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. Their kindness, compassion, and superior medical care was invaluable as they assisted us during her illness. They are truly an amazing group of people.
