August 21, 1932 – September 14, 2022
Donna was born August 21, 1932 to Virgil Grace & John Thomas Davis in Topeka, KS. Donna moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona from Cherryville, KS, in 1942.
Donna had two older brothers, Henry “Hank” Davis & Ed Davis, who preceded her in death, along with her parents. She is survived by a younger sister who was born after their arrival in Arizona, Carol Sue
La Rue Culver, of Phoenix.
Donna met her future husband, Robert L. Robertson, through a friend while he was home on leave from the Marines and playing baseball with friends. After corresponding long distance for a while as he finished his stint in the Marine Corps, they were engaged and married on August 28, 1949. Their union produced two children; a son, Robert L. Robertson, Jr., and Cheryl Lynn Robertson.
Donna & Bob raised their family in the home they bought in 1953. They both went back to school and became teachers. Bob passed away in 2007. Donna taught math in the Cartwright School District and retired from Borman Junior High School in 1996 after 29 years of teaching.
Donna’s love for the Lord led her to Mission Drive Baptist Church in Phoenix for over 50 years until it was dissolved. She moved her membership to Love Baptist Church, also in Phoenix, where she attended until her passing.
Donna loved to travel and took trips every year to new locations. The last of which was to the New England states to watch the changing of the leaves. She took her family on cruises to spend time with them, but also hoping to instill the “travel bug” into her grandchildren.
She loved to read books of all kinds, including books about the history of our country, period romance novels, and biographical books about famous people. She spent a lot of time crocheting, and as her family and some of her friends will attest, loved to give hand towels for almost every holiday that had crochet tops to hang on kitchen handles. She loved babies and children of all ages, which made her a good teacher.
Donna was very independent; still active enough to live alone in her house, drive herself to church, and do her own grocery shopping up until the time of her passing.
Donna is survived by her children, Robert L. Robertson (wife Melissa), Cheryl Hadlock (husband Monte); grandchildren Kareen McCarter (husband Mike), Brandon Hadlock, James Robertson, Christopher Robertson; two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Donna will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Donna’s name to Love Baptist Church, 3030 W Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85051. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapeloftheChimesMortuary.com for the Robertson family.
