Don Adlar Smart was born on March 13, 1955 to Haywood A. Smart and Anita Grace Brantford-Smart. He was one of six children born from his parents union. The family settled in California and Don grew up in Los Angeles. Growing up Don discovered a love of learning and movies. During his high school years he excelled academically. In addition he developed a fondness for the martial arts and gymnastics.
Don was a professional computer programmer and an amateur photographer in later years. In 2002 he married Darlene Childs-Smart. Together they shared a strong sense of family. Don was the father of nine children. He cared for and loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of his most favorite activities was taking his family to the movies and of course no movie going experience was complete without a trip to the snack bar! Don loved his family generously. In addition to family, Don enjoyed collecting guns, knives and target shooting. This year for Father’s Day he was able to share his love of guns and family when he and Solomon spent the day together target shooting. Don also loved sports. His favorite sport to play was basketball. He enjoyed playing pickup games in the park and taught his sons and nephew to play.
Due to a prolonged illness, Don was not able to always pursue his life to its fullest. However, he packed into everyday a hope for a better future and strove to make a difference in the lives of his children, grandchildren and others. His presence will be missed. Don was a member of the Refuge Church of Glendale, AZ.
