Dean “Andy” Anderson, 87, passed away on April 6, 2021 surrounded by his family just days before his 88th birthday. Andy was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 10, 1933 raised by his single mother, Mildred LeMay, until her passing when he was just 9 yrs of age. From that point on and until he completed high school at Eau Claire High School he was raised by his grandmother and aunts. After high school, Andy joined the Air Force where he served for 4 years. He served in the Korean War and he was very proud of his military background. He later married the love of his life. Together they had 6 children. He is survived by his wife, Janet Anderson, of 59 years of marriage, his 6 children (Mike, Dan, Brenda, Cheryl, Mark & Doug), 7 grandchildren and one sister, Brynda Raether.
Andy worked as the administrator for the Colorado City, CO Recreation District for a number of years where he created numerous programs for swimmers, ball players and golfers. He spent several years working various sales jobs in the field of marketing and advertising. His last few working years before retiring were in the capacity of Director of the Colorado City Cemetery. Andy was also very much an entrepreneur at heart and fostered many business endeavors throughout his lifetime, one of which was a Yogurt & Cookie Company in Pueblo, CO. He also collected old books, coins, and historic memorabilia.
He loved spending time with his children and taking them to swim meets, baseball games and golf. Andy’s passion for the game of golf was always one of his most favorite pastimes . From the time Andy was age 8 and up to his 87th year, you could find him on a golf course.
Andy was very committed to his faith, was an active member of the Catholic Church and served for many years at St. Aloysius church in Rye, CO.
Andy and Janet relocated from Colorado to Arizona in 2014 to be near their children and grandchildren. Andy loved his time in Colorado City and the numerous friendships he created there. However, his time spent in Arizona the past 7 years with his children and grandchildren became his most treasured years.
Andy will be remembered for his chatty and humorous personality as well as his fun and silly nature... he loved people. He will be greatly missed and cherished by his family and friends. The family will be celebrating his life with a private service which will include family and his close friends. Andy will be honored with a military burial at the VA National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix on April 27, 2021.
