Danny Leroy Eggleston was born in Pueblo, Colorado on February 5, 1949 to Frank & Ann Eggleston. He entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2021 at the age of 72 in Surprise, Arizona. He attended elementary school in Buena Vista and he graduated from Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale, Colorado in 1969. During his school years, he enjoyed sports and lettered in football and track. Dan and his track teammates set records in several relay races. Dan was a fast and strong runner and outran many of his competitors. Dan also belonged to Boy Scouts, DeMolay, and Young Life.
In 1969, Dan received a draft notice from the United States Military while he was a senior in high school. His military career began right after graduation in 1969 & was honorably discharged in 1973. He completed Marine Corps boot camp in Camp Pendleton, California. He spent four years and did two tours in Vietnam. Dan served as a Military Police Corporal and a firearm instructor. He received several awards, including rifle sharpshooter badge, pistol marksman badge, combat action ribbon, Vietnam service medal, National Defense service medal, and a good conduct medal. Dan was a patriot who was proud of his service to our country. He was not afraid to show it and displayed the U.S. Flag and Marine decals proudly on his car and in his home.
After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Dan landed a welding job in Baggs, Wyoming. Later he began working for Spring Creek Ranch Resort in Jackson Hole. He lived and worked in Jackson for about 15 years and enjoyed some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. in Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks.
During the winter months both in Colorado and Wyoming, he was into riding his snowmobile, flying over mounds of snow and catching air. He was an avid hunter from the time he was a young man. When he spoke about hunting, he always shared that he didn't do it just for the sport of it, but for the meat and to put food on the table. Of course, the bonus of it was spending time with his brothers Dave & Doug, nephews Chad, Jared & Shyler, brother-in-law Randy, and friends as they enjoyed camping and sitting around the campfire.
Dan enjoyed working with wood and building useful & beautiful furniture, including a gun cabinet, desk, patio set and more. Woodworking became his passion and he loved the creative & challenging aspect of the build, sometimes not even using building plans.
In April 2004, Dan decided to move to Phoenix, Arizona with much encouragement from his sister Cyndee. Even before he arrived in Arizona, he had secured a job with The Phoenician Resort. He started work on May 7, 2004 & took on all of the duties of their welding shop. He worked there for the next 13 years until he retired at the age of 68.
It was when Dan made the move to Phoenix that he met his wife, Connie. They were matched through E-Harmony, a serious dating site that wants to see success stories and a match for life! After corresponding through E-Harmony's email for a while, they started talking on the phone. A few weeks later, they met at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant for their first date. Dan was waiting out in front of the entrance with red roses in his hand to give to her. It all worked out and they married two years later on May 10, 2008.
Although Dan never had children of his own, he gained a step-son Aaron and a step-daughter Anna when he married Connie. When Anna & her husband Cliff had their daughter, Dan became a wonderful & devoted Papa to Ella, who was such a bright, precious light in his life. He loved to feed her & hold her from the time she was born. He played with her, read to her, & did craft projects with her. He was such a good grandpa who loved his granddaughter with his whole heart!
Dan was a member of Palmcroft Church. Recently, he recommitted himself to Jesus and he is in his heavenly home. Connie and Dan will spend eternity together. That is indeed a happy ending to a life well lived!
Dan is survived by his wife, Connie, brother Douglas Eggleston & sister-in-law Judy Eggleston, brother-in-law Randy Seamons, newphews Chad Eggleston, Shyler Seamons, Jared Seamons, niece Dusti Corbitt, step-son Aaron Lambert, step-daughter Anna Cleveland, step-son-in-law Clifford Cleveland, and granddaughter Ella Cleveland.
