Daniel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in the summer of 1967 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He continued his education, receiving a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University in the fall of 1985. On May 1, 1971, he married Karen Joyce Hayden in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
After receiving his undergraduate degree, Daniel served two years in the Army, primarily as a Motor Platoon Officer and later as an Executive Officer assigned to Company C of the 23rd Infantry Regiment (M*), 2nd infantry Division while stationed in Korea. After leaving Korea, he served as Company Supply Officer at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He received unit awards for service in Korea: National Defense Service medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal and Korean Defense medal. He also received the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) due to action taken while Officer in Charge of Guard Post Gladys (located in the DMZ Western Sector) when on April 20,1968 members of 2/23rd found themselves under attack from North Koreans.
Upon his discharge from Army, Daniel worked as a Personal Generalist at Slippery Rock State College in Pennsylvania for almost 5 years. He then moved to Arizona, to worked as the Employee Benefits Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix for a short period time. With his 35 years of public administration experience, a position as a public administrator at Arizona State Government was the perfect fit for Daniel.
Daniel loved his dogs like they were his own children. He was a huge Pittsburg Steeler fan but also enjoyed watching the Diamondbacks and Cardinals. Daniel attended the Fiesta bowls every year. He also loved traveling and taking cruises with his wife. He had a sweet tooth for all desserts.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his brothers Phillip Flukas, John Flukas, and Robert (Denise) Flukas. He is preceded in by his wife Karen Joyce Flukas.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on September 25,2025 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Ave. Glendale, Arizona. A reception will follow the services.
