Carol Sue Johnson was born in Glendale, Arizona on October 25, 1932, to Alice and Frank Nordyke. Growing up, her family moved several times between Oregon, California, and Arizona. She graduated from high school in Eddyville, Oregon and later went to secretarial school.
She married Frank Johnson on July 9, 1954, at Glendale Church of the Nazarene in Glendale, Arizona. They raised their family in Glendale and had a long and happy marriage of almost 70 years.
Carol worked for a few different companies, Meadow Gold Dairy, Dr. Field's dental office, and Montgomery Elevator, as a secretary. She was also quite the salesperson. She sold newspaper subscriptions in 1964 and won a Ford Fairlane. She also sold Avon for years to help put her three girls through college. After retirement, she became a demo person at Costco.
Carol, Frank, and their kids were active members of Glendale Church of the Nazarene. They made many lifelong friends where together they enjoyed Sunday school classes, picnics, camping and practicing hospitality which often involved table games.
When she and Frank retired and their kids were grown and gone, they moved to Sun City, Arizona; again, taking an active part in the Sun City Nazarene Church.
Carol was known for her quick wit, her smile, and her welcoming spirit. She loved her family, friends and above all else, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was deep and abiding.
She battled Alzheimer's in the last few years of her life. On February 1, 2024, at 91 years old, she went to live in her heavenly home.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Frank Nordyke, Melvin Nordyke and Helen Burright. She is survived by her husband Frank, their daughters Gayle (Jim) Yelvington, Glenda (Bill) Bokamper, and Julie (David) Fail, their grandchildren Scott (Arnold Peneda) Yelvington, Kimie (John) Robins, Gracie Yelvington, Michael (Terra) Bokamper, and Rob (Rachel Fail) their 8 great grandchildren, her brother Joe (Beth) Nordyke and sister-in-law Beverly Harmsen and Linda O'Brien.
We will miss her greatly, but are comforted by the fact that we will see her someday in heaven.
"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
