Betty Margaret James (age 96) passed away April 5, 2021 at Christian Care in Phoenix, Arizona. Betty was born in Chelsea, Oklahoma on October 15, 1924 to parents, John Edward Hayes and Victoria Delilliam King, and she grew up with three sisters and a brother.
Following high school graduation at just 16 years of age, Betty married William A James. She had an interesting employment background, beginning with a position at Goodyear Aeronautical, moving on to Montgomery Wards, then to Nebs Market, and finally AJ Bayless, where she retired in 1986.
Betty and William raised a beautiful family with three sons and one daughter; she was also a devoted member of the West Phoenix Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William A James; her son, Robert A James; and siblings Gertie, Maxine, June and Floyd Hayes.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry L James and William C James; daughter, Patricia L Staples; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren as well as great-great grandchildren.
Services will take place Monday, April 12, 2021. A visitation will begin at 8:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 9:00 am at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary located at 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. Graveside service will immediately follow at West Resthaven Park Cemetery located at 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
