Albert Edwin (Ed) Plummer of Sun City, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his home on January 15, 2019, surrounded by his wife and children. Ed was born in Hereford, Texas on April 15, 1932 the seventh of eight children of Bruce and Margaret (Gray) Plummer.
After one semester at Texas A & M University, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict. He often said in later life that he never again signed an employment contract. After serving his enlistment, Ed took his G.I. benefits and obtained a degree in business administration in 1958 from Texas Technological College. A year into working at a utility company, he realized that it wasn’t the direction he wanted for his career and took a position with a CPA in Friona, Texas. There he found his calling, helping people with their taxes. He became a CPA and continued in practice, first in Texas and then in Arizona, until he retired at the age of 80.
Ed moved to Arizona in 1960 where he met the love of his life, married, and raised a family in the Phoenix area. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Phoenix where he taught church school to preschoolers for more than twenty years. He loved children—anyone’s children—and he was sorely missed in the church school when he retired.
Ed was first of all a family man. His wife and children meant everything to him. He enjoyed visiting with family and church friends and clients who often became friends—many of whom he knew even before he met his wife. He enjoyed puttering around the yard and often saw a need for something that he could build to meet that need. He liked it when he could “do it myself.”
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Glover) Plummer; daughters Margaret (Meg) Plummer of Plano, Texas, and Mary Plummer of Chandler, Arizona; son, David Plummer of Phoenix; brother, Ben R. Plummer of Hereford, Texas; sister, Marian Lindell of Saline, Michigan and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Plummer and Margaret (Gray) Plummer; brothers Allen Plummer, Glen Plummer and Melvin Plummer; and sisters Helen Manning and Evelyn Francis.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on January 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3104 W. Glendale Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85051.
