Violet Marie Coats, 83, of Glasford, Illinois, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Belwood Nursing Home in Peoria. She was born on November 2, 1929 in Washington, Illinois. She was the daughter of Clyle and Dorothy (Adams) Gresham. She married Chester Guy Coats on May 8, 1948 in Glasford, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1986 in Peoria, Illinois. She is also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Violet is survived by two children, G. Michael (Jill) Coats and G. Michelle Merritt both of Glasford, Illinois. She has five grandchildren, Christopher (Denise) Coats of Pekin, Illinois, Kelli Coats of Bartonville, Illinois, Chelsea, Quincy, and Chet Merritt all of Glasford, Illinois. There are two great grandchildren, Victoria and Brandon Coats both of Pekin, Illinois. She has one brother surviving, Albert (Joan) Gresham of New Port Richey, Florida.
She worked as a style consultant at the J C Penny Store in Pekin, Illinois for several years and she and her husband owned and operated the Rainbow Café in Glasford. Violet volunteered many hours at the Pekin Hospital and was a member of the Glasford Baptist Church where she was a past Sunday School Teacher and Junior Choir Director.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Glasford Baptist Church. The Revs. Paul Cook and Chris Jordan will officiate. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are by the Davison Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Glasford, Illinois. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church.
