Darrell “Deano” Benedict, 65, of Havana, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord March 21, 2014. Dean was born July 17, 1948 in Lincoln, Illinois to Raymond and Betty (Lucas) Benedict. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two children, Tommy (Sue) Benedict of Havana, IL, Hope Alvarez of Tucson, AZ; two step children, Phillip and Lisa Force of Peoria, IL; eight siblings, Judy Baker of Venice, FL, Ellen (Ed) Eggers of Peoria, IL, Roger (Cheryl) Benedict of Brimfield, IL, Carol (Bob) Parcesepe of Peoria, IL, Brenda (Steve) Hankins of Brimfield, IL, Randy Benedict of Bartonville, IL, Raymond Benedict of Lincoln, IL and Lyle (Renelle) Benedict of Lincoln, IL; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also his close and loyal yellow lab, Sissy Mae.
Dean was a seven time Illinois State Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He lost by split decision to represent the United States at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He was a member of Union 165 Peoria Labors for 38 years. He was an avid hunter who loved camping, fishing, and being outdoors.
Services for Dean will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Davison Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Glasford, Illinois. Paul McGrew will officiate the service. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow services at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 265 at 1704 East Lane, Peoria, Illinois.
Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
