Walter was born Nov. 11, 1924 to Asa White and Mary HeLena (Maxwell) Huggins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Berkly, California where his mother died in 1928. His father brought Walter and his sister, Margaret back to Mount Ayr, Iowa to the original Huggins family home. Margaret died in Feb. 1934. His father married Nona M. Cole in Nov. 1934. Walter and Ellen Colleen (Garrity) were married Sept. 10, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri where they have made their home since.
Walter served in the Seabees from 1943 to 1946 during WWII in the Pacific. He was a member of America Legion Post #61. He went to jewelry school in Kansas City and worked at Jaccard Jewelry Store in downtown Kansas City, designing and repairing jewelry in the late 40’s.
In 1987 he retired after 32 years with KC Power and Light Co.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, much loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, step-mother, his four sister-in-law’s and one brother-in-law.
Surviving include his wife of 69 years, Ellen; daughter, Nancy Cardwell of Harrisonville, Missouri; son, Casey A. Huggins of KC, Missouri; granddaughter, Regina Rushly of Harrisonville, Missouri; his four special great grandchildren, his namesake, Ryan Alexander Rushly, twin great grand-daughters, Amanda and Ashleigh Rushly, and his little buddy, Tucker Rushly; his great-great granddaughter, McKenna Rushly; nieces, nephews, and many friends
A Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held at 3 PM Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 at White Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior at the funeral home Thursday. Burial Terrace Park.
Memorials are suggested to Kansas City Hospice.
