She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 7, 1929, grew up in the Winnwood area and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1947. Virginia met and married her soulmate, George Ward, sharing 49 years together. Together they settled in Kansas City North, building their family home and raising 4 daughters. Virginia was in her element at home, hosting family and friends for holiday get-togethers and pool parties for more than 30 years. Virginia was an avid bowler and Kansas City sports fan. She passed her love of sports onto her family. Most summers, she could be found outside enjoying company while listening to Royals baseball on the radio until the last out or last kid was out of the pool. In the fall, her sports passion turned to the Chiefs. She attended many home and away games and famously pushed celebrating Christmas so she could witness a Chiefs playoff game that lasted two overtimes and is still the longest game in NFL history. She found her true passion later in life when she became a grandma, faithfully supporting her grandchildren’s academic and extracurricular passions. You could spot her in the crowd with a giant smile on her face while giving the best advice and encouragement.
Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings, parents, and husband George. She is survived by her children: Terry and Dan Robards, Beverly Ward, Becky Baker and Sharon Ward White, grandchildren: Marcy and Josh Hoppes, Jenny Robards, David and Blake Robards, Travis and Stephanie Baker and Adam and Cassie Baker, great grandchildren: Kaelyn, Sophie, Izzy, Dempsey, Dominik Hoppes; George, Elias, Paxton, Oliver Baker and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Virginia will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at White Chapel Cemetery in the Revelations Mausoleum 6600 Ne Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice Partners at 8301 State Line Rd Suite 103, Kansas City, MO 64114.
The family would like to thank the staff at New Mark Care Center for their support and dedication throughout her residency.
