TJ was born on 5/20/1987 in St. Louis, MO to Carrie Robart Barton. He graduated from Farmington High School in 2005, and from St. Mary’s University in 2015 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. TJ met Bradley Farmer in 2011, started dating in 2012, and they married in 2017. TJ grew up in Farmington, Missouri, and moved to St. Louis when he was 18, and then on to Kansas City when he was 20. He worked for several different companies over the years, but the focus of his work was always to help or to educate children. He spent several years working for the Missouri Child Protective Services, doing his best to help children out of bad situations. Most recently, he was the director of La Petite Academy, an early education center in Liberty, Missouri, that served over 200 children.
TJ’s family and friends will remember him as driven, focused, loving, outgoing and sometimes stubborn! He loved history and was an expert in the Queens and Kings of England – his favorites were Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I. TJ was a witty individual that had a way with words, was a fierce defender of women’s rights and passionately defended his political beliefs. He loved reading, playing video games, going to the movies and binge-watching TV (especially The Office!).
TJ is survived by his husband, Bradley Farmer; mother, Carrie Robart Barton; brother, Ryan West; sister, Emily Kahl (West); grandmother, Judy Booker; grandfather, James Robart; and cousins, Amanda Smith, Derrick Brinkley, Megan Vandergriff, Madison Vandergriff, Ava Robart and Eden Robart.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate TJ’s life.
