Thomas grew up in the Pleasant Valley area and graduated from Oak Park High School where he was in the band playing Trumpet. After high school he attended William Jewell College receiving his Bachelor of Science and Economics with a minor in Music. Thomas was in the band Rushcreek Bluegrass Revival where he played bass and a lead singer. After school he served in the US Air Force. Thomas was a charter member of Atkins Johnston Farm; President of Liberty Chamber; President and Treasurer of East Clay Rotary Club, Rotary President and Assistant Governor District 6040 where he received the Paul Harris Fellows; 4 Ward City Council Liberty, MO; Planning and Zoning Liberty, MO; Republic Central Committee; Governor for the American Royal; Member of Son of The American Revolution; President of UMB Bank for 37 years and worked in the commercial private labels for bank card division; President of Liberty First Bank (Patriot) for 5 years; He was a member and deacon at the Liberty Baptist Church where he served on the Finance Committee and a Sunday School Teacher. Thomas had a love of History, music, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Roy H. Atkins; grandparents E.W. and Mabel M. Salley and Roy G. and Bertha E. Atkins; uncle John G. Glade and aunts Vera H. Grissam and Elise (Richard) Ramey. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Elena E. Atkins; children Collin H. Atkins and Salley K. Atkins Weber (Michael J. Costanza); grandchildren Leah M. Atkins, Bryce L. Weber, Hannah M. Atkins and Ethan A. Atkins; mother Vera Salley Shannon; mother-in-law Juanita R. Wallace; father-in-law Jerry L. Tombleson, Sr; brother John H. (Holley L.) Atkins; sister Susan L. (Jim) Johnston; brother and sisters-in-law Jerry L. (Jan Butler) Tombleson Jr., Glen A. (Holly) Tombleson, Donna M. Wilson and 10 nieces and nephews.
