Steve was born on January 6, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Jack and Norma Carroll. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1965. He married classmate, Linda Farmer, on February 14, 1970 at First Presbyterian Church in North Kansas City.
He enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1966 and was Sergeant E-5 in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam he graduated from Maple Woods Community College and attended Rockhurst University. Steve served as a Police Officer in Gladstone and North Kansas City and as a Special Investigator in Clay County. He received the Medal of Valor from Gladstone Police. Steve was a member of the Metropolitan Major Case Squad, the Metropolitan Chiefs and Sheriffs Association and the Clay County Drug Squad. He retired from USAA Insurance in 2010 as a Senior Special Investigator. He was a charter board member of the Kansas City Men's Senior Baseball League and Associate Scout for the Houston Astros for six seasons.
In his free time, he enjoyed flying as a licensed pilot and showing his award winning '99 Corvette in local shows. Above all else, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. In 2020, Steve and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with many family and friends and welcomed a new granddaughter.
Steve was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Alan Carroll. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of the home; son Mike and his children Cade, Ellie, Mollie, and Max; son Jeff; and son Scott (McKenzie) and their newborn daughter, Evelyn. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Carroll Wiley; brother, Jack Carroll; and sister-in-law, Barbara Carroll Kirkland.
