Roy was born in Gallatin, Kentucky on January 30th, 1937 to Andre and Lula Mae Mercer. Roy attended Pendleton high school before joining the United States Navy, where he met his first wife Barbara Bartholomew. They were married February 16th, 1957 in Honolulu, Hawaii, after both being honorably discharged from the Navy; they relocated to Pendleton, Indiana where they welcomed 5 children, Margaret, Dale, Anita, Pattie, and Kevin. Roy enjoyed many things but glowed when he reminisced over his years of racing at the Sun Valley Speedway.
Later in life Roy and Barbara with their family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. Where Roy was a General Manager at several local box companies, he then moved on and became a Car Salesman where he retired. After the loss of his wife Barbara Mercer in 1998, Roy was blessed in meeting and marrying Joan Reeder in November, 2001.They lived a beautiful life, full of love. Roy leaves behind 7 children; Margaret Mercer, Dale Mercer (Andrea), Anita Brannam (Mike), Patricia Robertson (Kevin), Kevin Mercer (Kathy), Shannon Hogue (Jason) and Vicky Cross. He is also survived and deeply remembered by 24 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and his brother Calvin Mercer (Charlotte) and sisters Belinda Lane, Jeannie Hendricks all of Indiana.
Upon his arrival he was greeted by many including but not limited to Barbara Mercer, Joan Mercer, Lula Mae Eacret, and 6 siblings that preceded him in death.
Roy will be incredibly missed by so many, especially his witty sense of humor and his love for old time country.
