Rose Marie (Sproul) McGinness, 88, loving wife and mother, fell asleep in the Lord quietly and peacefully in March, 2017 at The Gardens at Barry Road Assisted Living in Kansas City, MO with her beloved son, Mark, dear and cherished friend, Margaret Giordano and caring hospice nurse, Riki Oldham, by her side. She was born in 1929 in Kansas City, MO to Joseph and Lena (Lapetina) Sproul and is preceded in death by her parents, husband Will S. “Bill” McGinness and brothers John and Charles Sproul. Growing up in Kansas City, MO, she attended Westport and Southwest public schools. Rose Marie had incredible musical talent and in addition to her regular studies, privately studied classical piano, going on to become an accomplished, professional organist, playing regularly in such famous places as the Hotel Muehlebach and other venues. While her brothers were serving during World War II, she contributed to the effort as an aircraft parts assembler in factories in Minneapolis and Springfield, IL. Later, she married Bill, had Mark and they lived in Excelsior Springs for a time, but later the family moved to Brownsville, TX to be closer to Bill’s brother, Jack, and where she was an active supporter of the band departments at St. Mary’s Catholic School and St. Joseph Academy. Eventually she and Bill moved back to Kansas City where they remained for the rest of their lives. Rose Marie didn’t have many hobbies other than playing her Hammond organ and she liked to keep up with current events by watching the news and reading her favorite newsletter, Bottom Line Personal. She spent most of her time taking care of her family and, at various times throughout most of her adult life, was a tireless, selfless, loving caregiver to her father, mother, brothers, aunt and husband. She, along with Mark, wished to recognize and thank: Lynette Stuke of Seneca, KS and the Starlite Motel for her decades-long friendship, assistance to the family and frequent care packages filled with delicious, home-baked items, including her favorite, angel food cake; Margaret Giordano, long-time, dear friend who was always there to help when needed; all her wonderful and caring friends at the Gardens at Northgate Village Apartments in North Kansas City; Michael McGinness, Attorney at Law, for his decades of assistance and wise counsel to the family and family business; the wonderful people at Northland Meals on Wheels, the caring and attentive staff at Kindred Hospice, especially Riki Oldham, RN, Niki Fehling, LMSW, Meagan Munsch, HHA and Angela Spicer, HHA; the kind and caring staff at the Gardens at Barry Road Assisted Living; Doctors Mark Gordon, Dwight Cashier, Kala Danushkodi and Jeremy Youngblood and their staffs for their kind, attentive care through the years; Victoria Osweiler. In accordance with her wishes, she was laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, MO in a private, graveside service. She also requested no flowers or charitable contributions be made in her name. May her memory be eternal.
