Rodney S. Applegate, 83, of Kansas City, MO passed away February 5, 2017. He was born April 10, 1933, in Kansas City, KS to the late Francis and Charlieann Applegate. Rodney attended Shawnee Mission High School and graduated from K.U. with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in the natural gas transmission field in Kansas City and Bridgeport West VA. Rodney returned to the Kansas City area in 2003. Rodney was preceded in death by a son, Rodney “Billy” William; Maria, his previous wife of 48 years and his brother, Evan Applegate. Rodney is survived by his wife, Marcia; three sons, Dan (Patsy) Abernathy, James (Laura) Applegate and Michael Applegate; brothers, (Francis) Ted (Haven) Applegate and Alan (Marilyn) Applegate; grandchildren, Christopher and John Applegate; as well as great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1pm. A celebration of life will follow at 2pm, also at White Chapel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wayside Waifs.
