Robert Allen “Bob” Smith, 87, died on June 17, 2024 at the NorthCare Kansas City Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital. Bob was born on April 23, 1937. He was raised by his mother Carmela Vaccaro Fiorello and Anthony Fiorello. He graduated from Manual High School in 1955. Bob married Rose Tamburello in 1957. They were married for 65 years until her death in January 2023.
Bob worked for Kaw Valley State Bank for 27 years. He then owned and operated The Chapel Book and Gift Store in Gladstone from 1984-2002. As a businessman he earned a reputation for honesty.
Bob was a loving father who was determined that his children would know the value of hard work and attain a higher level of education than he did. His emphasis on the importance of family shaped his children’s values.
Bob took pride in maintaining his home and yard and enjoyed Westerns, the music of the 50’s, watching the Chiefs and the Royals – and most of all, his family. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since its founding.
Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose and his son Robert Smith, Jr., his mother Carmela Fiorello and stepfather Anthony Fiorello, Aunts Mary Blanscet and Anna Vaccaro, and Uncles Bill Blanscet and Louis Vaccaro,
Bob is survived by his children Charlie Smith (Mariann McCormally), Joann Gascich (Scott), Roseann Hoffman (David), daughter-in-law Amy Smith; grandchildren Keeley Morrow, Shelby Smith, Anthony, Nicholas, and Megan Gascich, and Sydney, Madison, Trey and Dayton Hoffman; great-grandchildren Hayden and Elise Morrow, Anthony, Jr. and Noah Gascich, and Simon Gascich; many nieces and nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to NorthCare Hospice House, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care (kchospice.org).
Services will be Wednesday, June 26 at Holy Family Catholic Church (919 NE 96th Street, KCMO 64155). Visitation at 11:00 am. Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Burial at 2:00 pm at White Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens (6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119).
