Bob was born on April 7, 1931, the youngest son of Edward and Catherine Lehman. He attended Barry School and graduated from North Kansas City HIgh School in 1949. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft maintenance technician, spending most of his service in Texas. He married Beverly LaRue Gabbert in 1956, and they had four children. After working for his brother, Jack, at ACME Ditching, Bob started his own business, Pleasant Valley Ditching Service, in 1969. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 101).
Bob never met a stranger, and he will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help others in need, especially those in the Pleasant Valley community. Bob was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 214 and could even occasionally be found distributing candy as Santa with the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Bob was known for his sense of humor and his orneriness. He and Beverly bowled in several leagues when their children were younger, and he was a member of the American Bowling Congress. Bob also enjoyed fishing and was always welcoming friends into his garage to share a cold beer and a good joke.
Bob was preceded in death by Beverly, his wife of 53 years, who passed in 2009.
Bob leaves behind a son, Denny Lehman; three daughters, Ruth Lamley, Joyce McCardie (Michael), and Diana Lehman; a grandson, Ben Lehman (Natasha); and two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Georgia Lehman.
There will be a private graveside service at White Chapel Cemetery in Gladstone. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
