He graduated from Braddyville Iowa High School in 1943. Robert promptly enlisted into the United States Army and served in the WWII European Theater, arriving at Normandy Beach D-Day + 102, 1943-1946. Returning to St. Joseph, MO where he worked as a professional photographer for 5 years, and remained in the Army Reserve, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. Bob then moved to Kansas City where he began working for the Insurance Services Office of Missouri for the next 33 1/2 years. During this time, Bob met Waldine Huck at Linnwood Methodist Church, where they were married on October 27, 1963. They welcomed their only son, David in 1965. Upon retirement in 1983, Bob drove a school bus for the NKC School District until 1987. For 30 years, Robert also cared for Anita Gorman's landscaping. During this time Robert served for the United States of Western Missouri Marshall Service in charge of confiscated buildings. He also was the longest tenured employee/volunteer in North Kansas City history serving as the chairman of the police and fire board for 30 years. In addition, Robert was part of the original KCI airport ambassador program, serving 15 years. Bob was a member of Linnwood United Methodist Church 1952-1972, Avondale United Methodist Church 1972-2023. Bob served as Sunday school teacher, Board of Trustees, and other numerous capacities. Bob was a proud father and grandfather.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Waldine, Sister Rosalyn Kinder, Brother Kenneth, and two siblings at the time of their birth.
Survivors include, son David (Ellen), granddaughter Allison, grandson Jackson, sister-in-law Lois Garrett, Clarinda, IA. Numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests honorable donations be sent to Honor Flight Network of Kansas City.
